Effects of Waterlogging Stress on the Physiological Characteristics and Secondary Metabolites of Herbaceous Peony (<i>Paeonia lactiflora</i> Pall.)

Herbaceous peony is an ornamental plant with medicinal properties. Waterlogging can affect its yield and quality as it grows matures. In this study, we subjected “Taohuafeixue”, “Yangfeichuyu” “Hongxiuqiu” herbaceous varieties to a simulated waterlogging stress treatment investigated the effects of on their physiological characteristics secondary metabolite contents in leaves roots. Short-term caused turn yellow or red roots black. The stele cell wall endothelial cells thickened, cortical enlarged. did not significantly change height, leaf length, area; however, decreased root-shoot ratio varieties. activity antioxidant enzymes content osmotic regulators increased under waterlogging.
